This lesson plan is a companion resource for the book Little Ant and the Peanut by S.M.R. Saia. It can be used in the school or homeschool classroom or, less formally, parents can leverage the discussion guide and activity for additional enrichment at home. The main objective of this lesson plan is to help young children understand that some things can only be accomplished by teamwork. Additional objectives include:
Identify and describe the behaviors of characters in a book.
Explore citizenship through literature.
Understand that some things can only be accomplished by working together.
Understand the qualities of a good team player.
The bright, colorful, and emotionally expressive illustrations will help to engage students in discussions about self awareness, self management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness.
This lesson maps to the following Common Core standards: RLK.1, RLK.2, RLK.10, SL.K.1.A, SL.K.1.B, SL.K.2, SL.K.5, SL.K.6
