This lesson plan is a companion resource for the book Little Ant and the Mantis by S.M.R. Saia. It can be used in the school or homeschool classroom or, less formally, parents can leverage the discussion guide and activity for additional enrichment at home. The main objective of this lesson plan is to help students make a connection between self control and preserving relationships and solving problems. Additional objectives include:
Identify and describe the behaviors of characters in a book.
Explore diversity and respect through literature.
Make a connection between how they act and the outcome of challenging situations.
State at least one benefit of self control.
This lesson maps to the following Common Core standards: RLK.1, RLK.2, RLK.10, SL.K.1.A, SL.K.1.B, SL.K.2, SL.K.5, SL.K.6
The bright, colorful, and emotionally expressive illustrations will help to engage students in discussions about self awareness, self management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness.
