This lesson plan is a companion resource for the book Little Ant and the Grasshopper by S.M.R. Saia. It can be used in the school or homeschool classroom or, less formally, parents can leverage the discussion guide and activity for additional enrichment at home. The main objective of this lesson plan is to help students make a connection between the choices the characters make and what happens to them. Additional objectives include:
Identify and describe the behaviors of characters in a book.
Make a connection between how characters act and the outcome of challenging situations.
Understand that the choices they make have consequences.
Describe how to tell if a choice they are about to make is a good one.
This lesson maps to the following Common Core standards: RLK.1, RLK.2, RLK.10, SL.K.1.A, SL.K.1.B, SL.K.2, SL.K.5, SL.K.6
The bright, colorful, and emotionally expressive illustrations will help to engage students in discussions about self awareness, self management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness.
